Strategic Alliances for CITES: Dee Mutung’a, Global Affairs Director, Leads at CITES
As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of marine conservation, it is with great pleasure that I announce an exciting development within the Sea Save Foundation.
Dee Mutung’a, an esteemed advocate for environmental jurisprudence, has been appointed as the Director of Global Affairs. Her inaugural mission is to lead our delegation at the upcoming CITES standing committee in Geneva—a role she assumes with both gravitas and anticipation.
Dee and I found common ground in the rigorous academic pursuit at the Universidad de Andalucia, where we were deeply engrossed in the specialized program focused on the Management and Conservation in Species Trade (CITES) which would lead to Master’s Degrees. In the esteemed corridors of this institution, our mutual dedication to environmental preservation became the bedrock of our relationship. As we navigated the demanding coursework together, our professional connection grew into a strong collaborative bond.
We constantly spurred each other on, providing both challenge and encouragement, propelling our individual and collective growth in our fields.

A Reunion with Purpose
But it was solidified through our collaboration during the CITES CoP19 in Panama, where Dee’s role as a vital member of the Kenyan delegation highlighted her informed and authoritative approach to international conservation dialogue.
Recognizing the synergy between Dee’s ambitions and our mission, it was a natural progression for her to join the Sea Save Foundation Board of Directors. Her transition into the Director of Global Affairs was a testament to her commitment and the significant role she plays within our organization.
Embodiment of Excellence and Expertise
Dee Mutung’a brings a wealth of experience to the table. Her tenure as a wildlife attorney for the Kenyan government has been marked by notable achievements in legislative reform and policy development. Her strategic insights have been crucial in shaping national and international conservation efforts, addressing critical issues such as habitat degradation and the illegal wildlife trade.
As the Kenya Delegate, Dee took the floor multiple times at CITES CoP 19
Commitment to Conservation and Community
As Dee prepares to represent Sea Save at the CITES Standing Committee in Geneva, her presence is a beacon of our dedication to the cause. Her extensive background in environmental law will bolster our representation at this global forum, ensuring that our advocacy is heard and respected.
A Vision for the Future
Our selection of Dee Mutung’a to lead our delegation is a clear indication of Sea Save’s resolve to engage with the international community through a lens of expertise and professionalism. Her work at the Geneva Summit will undoubtedly further our endeavors to protect marine biodiversity.
We intend to collaborate closely at future CITES Conferences of the Parties (CoPs), uniting our specialized skill sets and leveraging the knowledge from our CITES-focused Master’s degrees, along with our comprehensive combined experience, to deliver the utmost in our endeavors to safeguard marine wildlife.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Dee as she embarks on this vital assignment. We anticipate her leadership to be a guiding force for our collective efforts, and we look forward to her contributions to our ongoing work.
