Dive the Gin Clear Waters of Matava… Fiji Untouched
March 13 – March 20, 2018
Get off the beaten path and explore the pristine Kadavu island with Sea Save Foundation! Located on the shore of the Great Astrolabe Barrier reef, the Matava resort is designed to bring you into close contact with the island’s astonishing beauty. You will fall asleep each night to the sounds of jungle wildlife and the rhythmic surge of the South Pacific breaking on the shore. Matava is far from light pollution and population centers, so the air is crystal clear and your are surrounded by the sounds of pure nature. You will remember this remarkable adventure for the rest of your life!
Matava Diving Experience
During your 7-night stay in one of Matava’s traditional Bures (Fiji for “houses”), you will enjoy 5 days of diving (or snorkeling) in and around the fourth largest barrier reef in the world. The 120-kilometer Great Astrolabe Reef is Fiji’s single largest living organism, and home to thousands of vibrant, diverse creatures. Large swaths of the reef remain unexplored; you could be the first person ever to set eyes on a patch of coral! Visibility in the reef ranges from 20 to 100 meters under perfect conditions. With such a view, you are bound to see something extraordinary at every turn. In addition, our group will participate in Matava’s Manta Experience dive – the name speaks for itself!
Snorkeling expeditions are also available daily. Depending on your taste for excitement, the reef offers calm coral garden views or the chance to swim with white-tip and gray reef sharks!
… and When the Diving is Done
Back on shore, Matava boasts fine international and local cuisine, all of which are included in the Sea Save Foundation trip package. Evening meals are events in themselves, handmade from organic produce and fresh seafood and prepared in dazzling displays. When we arrive, Sea Save guests are invited to a wine and cheese cocktail party and can take advantage of a complimentary neck and shoulder massage at the resort’s spa. Toward the end of the week, our trip also includes a special meal called the Lovo feast, as well as a Beach BBQ.
Culture and Community
We will taste local flavors and experience Fijian culture both on the resort and in the community. One day during our trip, we will explore a nearby waterfall frequented by members of the surrounding community. We will visit the school and spend time in the village. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet new people and engage with a beautiful culture amid a beautiful landscape.
